Volunteer Policies & Code of Conduct

By volunteering at Hope Street Food Pantry, you agree to uphold the following standards and policies to ensure a safe, respectful, and efficient environment for our community.

Professionalism & Conduct

  • Attitude and Behavior: Volunteers commit to a polite, compassionate, and humble demeanor. We respect all individuals regardless of faith, belief, background, or need.
  • Representation: As a representative of Hope Street, you agree to conduct yourself in a manner that reflects our core values and maintains a positive organizational image.
  • Confidentiality: Volunteers must uphold strict confidentiality. Any client information or sensitive organizational matters acquired during service must not be disclosed.
  • Civil Rights: Hope Street is an Equal Opportunity Agency. All volunteers are required to read and sign the Civil Rights Agreement annually.

Service & Commitment

  • Reliability & Punctuality: Volunteers agree to fulfill assigned tasks to the best of their ability. If you can no longer attend, you must remove your name from the sign-up sheet within a 24-hour timeframe and not just a couple of hours before the shift.
  • Cleanup: To maintain a safe and welcoming environment, all volunteers are responsible for cleaning up after themselves and ensuring their station is tidy before leaving.
  • No-Show Policy: To ensure we have the necessary hands on deck to serve our families, we maintain a limit of two no-shows per volunteer.

Food Distribution & Equity

  • Putting Others First: We serve everyone equally and fairly. Volunteers commit to prioritizing the needs of clients and the Pantry above personal interests.
  • Volunteer Food Policy: Volunteers are welcome to register and receive food only at the end of their shift. To ensure fairness to the community, volunteers are strictly prohibited from saving or setting aside food for themselves while we are actively serving the community.

Safety & Requirements

  • Attire: For safety reasons, closed-toe shoes are mandatory. Please dress appropriately for the season, as many volunteer positions are located outdoors.
  • Age Requirement: Volunteers must be at least 10 years old unless prior approval is granted by the Director or Manager.
  • Liability Release: Volunteers serve at their own risk and release Hope Street and Hope City from any liability arising from volunteer service.

Groups & Coordination

  • Large Groups (5+): Must contact the Director or Manager prior to signing up at 704-584-9073 ext. 1 or email food@hopestreetfoodpantry.com.
  • School Groups: All school-related groups must have an adult supervisor present for the entire duration of the shift.
